The Sims 3 did its magic on PC once again as it became the top-selling computer game last year, and this time the game’s publisher EA wants to capture that success on the console side.
The Sims is one of those games that is so seminal that its brand will probably never go away as long as video games exist. That is, when you’re talking about the PC version. On consoles, the series has historically been more or less a muted flop. It’s a difficult sense of wonder to capture with a limited control scheme and closed infrastructure.
However, the unique traits of all the current consoles makes the Sims franchise more promising, and EA is capitalizing on that. For the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, users will be able to, for the first time, create and share in-game content with other users through a centralized server.
On the Wii, an exclusive city will be added, special missions and “adventure quests” will be integrated, and a multiplayer mini-game called Life Moments will let players win all sorts of prizes. The DS version will include an in-depth Sim creation tool that allows players to customize their virtual family to exquisite detail.
“We’re bringing players the best console and handheld game for The Sims franchise to date and are excited to offer a unique experience for all types of gamers on their platform of choice,” said
EA executive producer Sam Player.
