No, you can’t touch this one on other Android devices, at least, not initially.
That’s because Minecraft developer Mojang is reserving the long-awaited PC indie classic for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play before it hits additional Android phones.
As an added bonus, the Xperia-friendly version of the game will feature customized controls for the Play’s slide-out buttons.
Of course, Mojang is also coding iterations of the title for iOS and other Android devices – with the smartphone versions of the game expected to be “tweaked slightly” to deal with the “vagaries” of the new platform.
“When playing on smartphones you will have a different screen size compared to PC, different hardware, different attention spans and thus the game needs to be customized to fit the mobile specifications,” the company told Gamasutra.
Perhaps not unexpectedly, Mojang has yet to announce an Xperia-specific launch date or price. However, the developer did confirm the mobile iteration of Minecraft will be modeled on the motto of “release early and update frequently.”
Fortunately, additional news about the game is expected at E3 during a Minecraft media event on the evening of June 7.
TG Daily is covering all the fun and games at E3, so we will definitely keep you posted.
