The PS3 will become the first system to take full advantage of the new generation of 3D TVs with a firmware update that “will be available shortly.”
Sony’s director of Playstation Network Operations, Eric Lempel, posted the first official details of the PS3’s 3.30 firmware on the official Playstation Blog.
Lempel comments that the “most notable” part of the firmware update is a minor change to the way users can organize their PS3 trophies. Most would argue, however, that the biggest part of this update is the added support for stereoscopic 3D gaming.
Games that support the new functionality are “coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs,” writes Lempel.
Wipeout HD, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Pain, and Super Stardust HD will all get title updates that add in 3D functionality. These games will also come bundled in with Sony’s first slate of 3D TVs.
