Roku has refreshed it set-top box lineup with the entry-level SD and advanced HD-XR models. Both devices allow users to stream DVD-quality video from Netflix, Amazon, Video On Demand and MLB.TV.
“We’re introducing a breakthrough price point with the launch of our [$80] Roku SD player,” explained Roku CEO Anthony Wood.
“And the [$130] Roku HD-XR is the first Netflix-streaming device to embed next generation 802.11n dual-band wireless connectivity.”
According to Wood, the Roku HD-XR is fully compatible with legacy routers and may even boost indoor Wi-Fi reception.
He added that both the SD and HD-XR players connect “directly” to any TV
using standard HDMI or component video.
It should also be noted that Roku has announced plans to launch a “Channel Store” feature later this fall. The new store – which is expected to offer additional content channels – will be delivered to all Roku customers as a free and automatic update.
