Sony did not restore access to the Playstation Store digital storefront as expected yesterday.
Players have been waiting for more than a month for the service to be brought back online. Publishers have also felt a huge impact from the service disruption, especially those that had scheduled to launch downloadable PS3 games over the past four weeks.
Parts of the Playstation Network online servers have been brought back to working order, one can only hope in a safer and more secure way than before. Services like online multiplayers and accessing the Net from within a game are now possible.
So when Sony announced it would be taking the PSN back offline for several hours yesterday, many jumped to the appropriate conclusion that it would be using that time to get the Playstation Store back up and running.
However, Sony’s Jeff Rubenstein confirmed in a Playstation Blog post, “For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we’re still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month. Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today.”
It’s unclear what exactly Sony did to the PSN during yesterday’s downtime, but at this point the less we know about what’s going on behind the scenes at that company, the better.
Sony has promised to give PS3 and PSP owners a bunch of digital goodies for free when the Playstation Store does go back online. But will that ever happen?
