The last part of Sony’s online Playstation services has finally been restored.
Nearly two months after Sony first completely disabled the Playstation Network, the entire online system is now back up and running.
The last piece of the PSN puzzle to come back into place is the Playstation Store, Sony’s digital download platform that allows users to purchase PS3 or PSP games directly from the respective system.
In her first Playstation Blog post since April 20, Playstation Store director Grace Chen – who usually publishes multiple stories every week detailing the updates to the Store – wrote, “The PlayStation Store is back online and thank you everyone for your patience. You will notice a huge lineup of new downloadable games, demos, add-on content, themes, avatars and videos.”
However, there’s one thing that isn’t up and running yet. That’s the slate of free downloadable content Sony promised to make up for all the hassle over the last two months.
“You may have noticed that the content promised as part of the Welcome Back offer is not yet live. It is currently in the final stages of testing and will be available to download soon; we’ll be sure to let you know when,” Chen explained.
Those expecting to see everything that should have been released on the Store since mid April will also be disappointed. Sony will be slowly posting all that content over the next few weeks. Last night’s update looks to be about twice the size of what would have been a normal weekly update.
Sony restored part of the Playstation Network – namely the ability to connect to online multiplayer modes within games – late last month, but because of the added security concerns over credit card transactions on the Playstation Store, that service remained shut down for additional weeks.
