Microsoft redesigns Xbox 360 D-Pad

Is it just me, or does it seem like it took the chronically overpaid Xbox engineering team over five friggin’ years to admit the 360 controller D-Pad was in dire need of an overhaul?

Well, better late than never, I suppose.

So, maybe this controller – which includes a “transforming D-Pad” – won’t suck as much as the previous iteration.

At least not according to Microsoft’s Major Nelson (aka Larry Hyrb) – who insists the new D-Pad is both “revolutionary” and “ingenious.”

Why, you ask?

Well, apparently the revised D-Pad can be more easily manipulated and raised approximately an (amazing) quarter-of-an-inch simply by twisting it.

Yes, OMG!

This new configuration is expected to work wonders for fighting games that require furious tapping and complex keypad combos.

Yeah, that’s cool and all – but why did it take Redmond five years to fix the problem?

Get your act together people, this isn’t rocket science!
