Microsoft kills live "1 vs 100" game show on Xbox 360

Just like the TV game show it was based on, 1 vs 100 on the Xbox 360 has been canceled after a couple seasons.

The decision comes after fewer and fewer people were “tuning in” to play along for live gaming sessions for the opportunity to win Microsoft Points and Xbox Live Arcade games. It was supposed to be part of a big initiative from Microsoft to bring numerous live game shows to the Xbox 360. However, no other games surfaced.

The idea was very creative and there was certainly a dedicated fan base, but a lot of gamers were turned off by the fact that out of hundreds of people who played along, even if they answered questions correctly, only a handful of people ever won any prizes.

All in all, Microsoft considers the endeavor a success.

“We’re very proud of the 1 vs 100 team and their accomplishments, and are excited to apply what we’ve learned to future programming,” said Microsoft Game Studios general manager Dave McCarthy in a Kotaku report. More than 3 million people reportedly downloaded the 1 Vs 100 game file, but Microsoft did not release any details on how many people actually played.
