Think starring in a big budget superhero flick is just a walk in the park for six weeks work and a hefty paycheck?
Sure, it sounds easy to most of us, but of course there’s a lot of physical training for the action sequences, and Anne Hathaway wants you to know she’s also prepared in other ways to play Catwoman/Selina Kyle for The Dark Knight Rises.
Hathaway told Moviefone she’s gone all the way back to the comic books, saying, “There are a lot of comic books out there that will just focus on the mythology of Catwoman, so I bought as many of those as I could find.”
Hathaway also went all the way back to Batman #1 from 1940, although it’s not clear if she bought an authentic #1, which costs a fortune, or a reprint. (Maybe the studios have one in a vault you can read in a library with someone wearing gloves turning the pages for you.)
Hatahway wasn’t thrilled to read Batman warning Catwoman, “Quiet or papa spank,” finding the comment sexist. “Thank God times have changed and Chris Noalan believes in equality of the sexes,” she continued.
Hathaway has previously commented that she’s aware the reaction to the Catwoman costume was “meh” for a lot of people, but she’s hopeful audiences will change their minds. Hosting the Oscars again?
Wellll…
She told CNN she had a great time with it, “[The role] was an honor and it was lovely. But, it’s something that…requires a skill set…I didn’t put any pressure on myself to knock it out of the park with, my hosting skills because how would I have any? I’ve never hosted anything…There’s a lot of things that you have to put in place in order to deliever a really great, well crafted show that requires a lot of time and talent that I’m not entire sure I have.”
Sure, Hathaway came under fire for the biggest disaster in Oscar history since the Rob Lowe/ Snow White musical number, and most didn’t take her recent rapping on Conan O’Brien that seriously, so she got a pass on that as well.
Still, she’d better prepare herself for the geek microscope every aspect of Batman will be under, which will absolutely be her toughest scrutiny yet.
