Is 3D porn is just a gimmick?

No, I’ve never seen a porno in 3D, and I’m not sure that I want to, but I had a feeling with 3D making its big comeback 3D porn was inevitable.

First there was the news weeks after the release of Avatar that Tinto Brass, director of the notorious Caligula, was going to make a 3D porn.

And of course, with porn parodies of mainstream movies, like Pulp Friction, Cliffbanger, and San Fernando Jones and the Temple of Poon, an Avatar porn parody was inevitable.

Brass claimed his porno would be the first in 3D, which is certainly not true. In fact, in the old days of 3D, one of the most successful films in the format was the X-rated movie The Stewardesses.

Considering Caligula is still one of the most sleaziest movies ever made, I’d be afraid to think of what Brass could come up with in 3D.

It’s also frightening to think that apparently John Holmes made porn in 3D, and that’s certainly not something I’d want to see coming out of the screen.

I didn’t have to go much further than this site to see recent news on 3D porn, all 3D porn networks, and more, and having written about technology before, it’s surprising that the adult industry is chasing after the mainstream, because porn actually pushed through a lot of technology before the mainstream did.

The VCR, the internet, DVD, the adult industry broke them through before regular Hollywood did, and people will tell you the whole appeal of spending a ton of money on VCR back in the day was so you could watch X rated movies in your home.

The adult industry’s been hit hard by the recession when many felt it was recession proof, and the fact that porno is suffering shows how screwed up our economy really is.

3D will probably be little more than a gimmick with porn, just like it won’t make a bad mainstream movie any better.

Again, haven’t seen any 3D porno yet, but if it is truly amazing and makes me er, randier than the usual fare, I’ll let you know.
