Google “Gaming Advocate” Mark DeLoura is packing his bags and leaving the Mountain View-based company for greener pastures after a short, four-month stint.
DeLoura – who appears to have voluntarily resigned – explained that there were “a lot of very interesting things going on at Google right now,” but admitted the position was “not a perfect fit” for him.
According to Phandroid’s Kevin Krause, the industry veteran had previously worked at a number of prominent game companies, including Sony, Nintendo and Ubisoft.
“[DeLoura’s] addition was said to be a major turn for Google in gaining developer support and furthering their gaming platforms. Now, after a mere four months of work with the search giant, DeLoura is parting ways.
“[And although] DeLoura’s accomplishments at Google seemed more linked into the browser side of things rather than mobile, the move is no doubt a blow to all facets of gaming on the company’s various platforms.”
Nevertheless, Krause emphasized that Google would undoubtedly “keep moving forward” with its push to make gaming a viable business and could be expected to hire a new guru as DeLoura’s replacement.
“ExtremeT” of DroidGamers expressed similar sentiments.
“DeLoura is the second big name Google has lost over the summer from their gaming department with Android developer market lead Sun Hu Kim leaving earlier.
“[But] the loss of Mark seems to strike a rather large chord as Google has been pushing gaming, especially in the social arena, rather hard lately and the sudden absence of a Games Developer Advocate could put it on pause. [So], hopefully, we [will] see the position filled fast with another qualified veteran of the gaming industry soon.”
