Bad news, comic book nerds. DC Universe Online has been pushed back to 2011 after the developer hit snags in testing the beta networks. Problems are likely linked to the game’s ambitious ability to play over PS3 and PC in the same online world.
The inspiring game will now be in stores next year. It had been originally scheduled for release in November.
“As the game heads into external beta testing, this extra time will allow us to address community feedback in a meaningful way. When we get deeper into external beta, we’ll be able to share more information regarding the new launch date,” said the president of publisher Sony Online Entertainment John Smedley in a statement.
In addition to being unique for its vast collection of DC comic book characters, DC Universe Online has gained notoriety because it can play on the PC and PS3 simultaneously. PC and PS3 players will all be in the same online community.
That’s a feature that only Sony will allow. Microsoft categorically rejects any game that wants to go online on multiple platforms together.
So, even though the final game won’t go on sale until next year, DC Universe Online will open up its beta program next week. It’s a closed beta, though, only for people who signed up ahead of time. More slots will open up over the next month, though.
