Call of Duty grosses half a billion dollars in five days

Activision Blizzard said that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold $550 million worth in five days.

It didn’t say how many units this represented and the figure is an internal estimate, but it claims that it beats all previous sell through records, including Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,The Dark Knight, and Grand Theft Auto IV.

CEO Robert Kotick said that the launch is the largest in history and “a pop culture phenomenon”.

He said: “Millions of consumers have chosen to play Modern Warfare 2 rather than engage in other forms of media.”

But he remained cautious about the US and the global economy, including consumer spending. That, he said, “remains a significant concern”.
