The upcoming Beatles version of Rock Band will offer two new ‘guitars’ to go with the $250 full-band package of the game, to convince players that they really are the Fab Four.
“The Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet guitars are hailed as two of the signature, most celebrated instruments played by John Lennon and George Harrison throughout their careers, respectively,” says EA Games. “They will be made available for MSRP $99.99 in the U.S. and in continental Europe for MSRP €99.99 and for MSRP £89.99 in the UK.”
People wanting the full Beatles experience will have to fork out $450 when the game is released later in the year. No doubt a plastic Yoko Ono is also under development to provide authentic tuneless caterwauling.
While pretending to be able to play the guitar is probably better for your soul than pretending to shoot people in the face or dismembering alien stormtroopers with a chainsaw, we can’t help but feel that spending $450 on a real guitar and actually learning to play might be a more creative avenue to pursue. For less than $600 you can get a real Epiphone Casino, as also used by the loveable moptops.
Then when you start to get real good, you could save up and buy a real Ricky 325 for $2,500 or a genuine Duo Jet for around $3,000 and start writing a new set of the world’s greatest songs.
Or you could just waste your time with a computer game. Your call.
