Battlefield game gives away free DLC, with a catch

Developer DICE has put a little something extra in the new Vietnam add-on to the multi-platform video game Battlefield: Bad Company 2. But you’ll only be able to get it if other gamers want it as much as you. It’ll be automatically unlocked once a certain milestone of online activity has been reached.

A special “Operations Hastings” map, which has been revived from the classic Battlefield: Vietnam PC game from 2004, is hidden in the new DLC pack. However, once there have been 69 million recorded online “team actions” among all players across all platforms, it will be unlocked.

Team actions are described as any of the following:

– Resupply

– Revive

– Heal

– Spot

– Repair

Even if you don’t buy the expansion pack, you can still help out your fellow players. Actions in the main game will be counted in addition to those recorded on the Vietnam DLC maps.

So, 69 million is a really big number. How long will it take? That’s up to you all to decide. Actually, it’ll be pretty easy if you all just follow this piece of advice – since “revive” is a team action, everyone needs to just go online and kill themselves over and over again until the new map is unlocked. I don’t see a problem with that idea…

The Vietnam expansion comes out December 18 for $15 on the PSN and PC, or 1200 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360.
