Anne Hathaway talks Catwoman

Instead of keeping everything top secret on The Dark Knight Rises – which is only eleven months away from release – Warner Bros. has been “leaking” pics of Batman fighting Bain, along with an image of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Bain definitely takes a nod from Hannibal Lecter with the face mask, but I wasn’t even sure that the Hathaway pic was Catwoman (Kyle) fully decked out or not.

She’s definitely straddling one of those big tire, supervehicles Christopher Nolan’s brought to Batman (what I call the Bathummer and motorcyle are cool, but I do miss the Batmobile of old), and some kind of dark, funky goggles, and the suit is some kind of leathery, rubbery material that’s status quo among superheros and villains these days. (No pointy ears or tail so far either, which may be a good thing.)

There’s obviously a big risk factor with Catwoman’s costume, the Halle Berry movie was hopelessly dreadful, and it can very easily slide into camp territory if not done correctly, something the recent Bat tales have obviously tried hard to avoid. (And to tell you the truth, considering the camp factor risk, it may be much smarter to downplay any costume altogether, and rely more on Hathaway’s performance.)

As Hathaway just told MTV, “I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo]. And I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh.'”

Of course, MTV referred to its initial reaction as “cautiously optimistic,” “unflattering,” and “underwhelming.”

Still, Hathaway promises, “If you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what the suit can do. And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste.”

Again, only eleven more months to go before we see for sure, although subsequent teasers and full length trailers could also reveal even more of the film.
