There’s been a big anti-smoking movement in America for years, to the point where people have even criticized characters smoking in movies. While we think that things like that are going a little too far, we’re all for people speaking out against what can be a very deadly habit in the long run.
So we at TGD were shocked to learn that one celebrity who has been spoken out against smoking because of his own health problems is our beloved Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy was recently photographed in a wheelchair at the airport with an oxygen tube beneath his nose, and as E!.com reports, he has gone on Twitter to address his current health problems.
“I quit smoking 30 years ago,” Nimoy tweeted. “Not soon enough. I have COPD,” which is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. “Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP [Long Live and Prosper].”
Nimoy added, “Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you’re diagnosed with lung damage it’s too late. Grandpa says learn my lesson. Quit now.” In addition, the man who played Spock said all in all he’s “doing OK. Just can’t walk distances.” E! tells us that in spite of his health setbacks, he’s still working and keeping busy.
“Just taped my comments for Star Trek Fest to be aired on EPIX Feb. 16th. Still enjoying my life.” We at TGD certainly wish all the best for Nimoy, and hope his message will indeed inspire more smokers to quit.
