When Marvel’s deal with Robert Downey Jr. ran out, there were some fears he would not come back for the Avengers sequel, but being the good guy that he is, Bob came back and didn’t leave anyone in the lurch. Now it’s official that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are back for the three Avatar sequels.
We know from previous reports that Stephen Lang, who was killed in the first Avatar, will also be coming back somehow, but even if you transformed a bunch of other actors into big blue aliens, it would be hard to imagine the next films in the series without Sam and Zoe as well.
As The Hollywood Reporter tells us, Lang was the first to sign back on, and now Sam and Zoe are ready to dedicate the next several years of their lives to following up the biggest sci-fi epic of all time. Cameron said in a statement, “Sam brought to the role [of jake Sully] a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoe captured every aspect of the character I envisioned…a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.”
The current plan for Avatar is the first sequel will come December 2016, the next one in December 2017, and the third one some time in 2018.
