Marvel’s Ant Man, which Edgar Wright will be directing for a 2015 release, has been coming together quickly. The long rumored casting of Paul Rudd in the title role has been confirmed, and now another Hollywood A-lister is coming aboard, namely Michael Douglas.
As Variety confirms, Douglas is coming aboard as Hank Pym, the scientist who invents the formula that can shrink you down, and Rudd inherits it to become Ant Man. This will be Douglas’s first superhero movie, and his casting comes off his Golden Globe win for playing Liberace in Behind the Candelabra.
As Marvel said in a statement, “We knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
As a long time fan of Douglas, it’s cool to have him aboard, and we’re very curious to see how Ant Man is going to turn out. Paul Rudd should make a terrific superhero, who like Clark Kent could have the right combination of brains and brawn, and Edgar Wright should bring the right blend of heroics and humor to the proceedings. Ultimately, we’re hoping that with Ant Man something big will come in a very small package.
