Not only are comic books thriving on the big screen, but they’re going strong on the small screen as well. Besides SHIELD, Arrow, and the upcoming Marvel Netflix series like Daredevil and Iron Fist, there is also a Batman origin series in the works, Gotham.
Gotham will focus on Commissioner Gordon, and it will also have the young Bruce Wayne, along with the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penquin as villains. Collider tells us that Bruno Heller, writer of The Mentalist, will be scripting Gotham, which will be about Gordon rising up the ranks, and how the villains of the city ran rampant until Wayne grew up and become Batman.
Deadline reports that Gotham just got the order for a pilot, which will be directed by Danny Cannon (CSI). A Fox executive said that the show “will track Bruce from a child (around 12-year-old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale)…We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge. It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.”
No word yet on who will star on Gotham, or what could be a potential airdate for the show, but things are apparently coming together soon, so we’re guessing this fall would be a good time for Gotham to make its debut. More details as they come, hopefully same Bat-time, same Bat-channel…
