When we heard the news that Megan and David Ellison, who are the kids of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, had bought the right to The Terminator, we weren’t sure if the movie would ever get the green light. The rights deal lasts until 2018, so Megan and David have to get the movie made by that point before The Terminator slips out of their hands. This apparently won’t happen because it looks like Terminator 5 is indeed up and running, and casting has already begun.
Right now, Terminator 5 needs a Sarah Connor, and the Hollywood Reporter tells us three actors are up for the role: Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones, Brie Larson from The Spectacular Now, and Margot Robbie (About Time, The Wolf of Wall Street).
The Game of Thrones connection makes sense, because Alan Taylor, who regularly directs Thrones and who also helmed Thor: The Dark World, is directing the next Terminator film. In addition, The Reporter tells us that Taylor would love Tom Hardy to play John Connor, and there’s current speculation that Garrett Hedlund from Tron: Legacy could be up for the role of Kyle Reese.
Taylor will be looking at potential actors this week, and now is definitely a great time for Taylor to bring the new Terminator together because Thor: The Dark World is already making a killing at the box office. The next Terminator film is due for release on July 1, 2015, and at the rate things are going, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some official casting decisions hitting the press very soon.
