DC Comics Jumps Into TV With Gotham

It looks like Marvel’s going to have a big hit on TV with S.H.I.E.L.D., and since they’ve become the number one comic company in the known universe, DC is trying desperately to catch up. The comic giants are trying to get more movies in development since the Christopher Nolan Batmans came to an end, and now they’re branching off into TV as well.

According to Collider, DC is working on an origin story series about Gotham City, which will be titled, simply, Gotham. This series will be about the beginnings of Commissioner James Gordon, and the villains who plague the city.

Gotham is set up at Fox, and the show will be produced by Warner Brothers. Apparently there was a bidding war for it, and it’s obviously a very hot property in the wake of S.H.I.E.L.D. Bruno Heller, a writer for The Mentalist, will be scripting the show.

So will DC be able to steal some of Marvel’s thunder? They’re tough competition to beat these days with Iron Man and The Avengers on their team, but we’d be curious to see what DC can come up with for television. (It’s also good to bring the world of Batman back to the small screen, it’s certainly been a while.)
