JJ Abrams Talks the Magic of Star Wars

There’s not much to talk about with Star Wars at the moment. Actually, we’re sure there’s lots to talk about, but it has to be top secret. Secrecy is always a must with JJ Abrams, and this being Star Wars, things are going to have to be guarded like missile launch codes.

So JJ Spoke briefly with Entertainment Weekly about why Star Wars is important, like we don’t know already, and why it’s important not to screw it up. Like the rappers say, it’s all about keeping it real.

As Abrams explained, “We are working really hard to make a movie that feels as emotional and authentic and exciting as possible. It’s been nice to see how important it is and to be reminded how important it is to so many people. We all know [it] has become almost a religion to some people. I remember reading a thing somewhere, someone wrote about just wanting [the next movie] to feel real; to feel authentic. I remember I felt that way when I was 11 years old when I saw the first one. As much of a fairy tale as it was, it felt real.”

Like any convincing magic trick, you have to fool the audience into believing there is such a thing as magic. Having seen Star Wars when I was a little kid back in the ‘70’s, it certainly felt like one of the greatest magic tricks I ever saw. It’s going to be very hard to make audiences believe in that again, but we know JJ will certainly try.
