If you’re a fan of alternative 90’s music, you’ll no doubt remember Nine Inch Nails (NiN) front man Trent Reznor.
Reznor has been significantly involved in creating the soundtracks for some the most popular movies to come out of Hollywood over the past few years.
Interestingly, word has now surfaced that Reznor is working on a project with Beats Electronics, the company behind the Beats by Dre headphones.
The project is said to be a new streaming music service that could potentially rival Spotify and Pandora. Details are scarce, but Reznor has gone on record as saying the service will use “mathematics [algorithms] to offer suggestions to the listener.”
He has also noted that the service will “present choices based partly on suggestions made by connoisseurs, making it a platform in which the machine and the human would collide more intimately.”
According to The New Yorker, the music service is currently code-named Daisy, which is apparently only a placeholder of sorts until the service goes live. Sources claim those developing Daisy hope to have deals in place with music labels by March of 2013 and aim to launch the music service next summer.
Reznor believes that music fans will appreciate the new service because it offers improved filtering and curation tools superior to existing streaming music offerings. He said Daisy will be “like having your own guy when you go into the record store, who knows what you like but can also point you down some paths you wouldn’t necessarily have encountered.”
Beats Electronics acquired streaming music service MOG earlier this year and speculation is that Daisy will be based on MOG technology. The purchase of MOG reportedly cost Beats Electronics’ parent company HTC some $14 million.
