Comcast Xfinity adds offline viewing

Xfinity TV Player users can now download and watch videos offline.

Mega cable provider Comcast recently rolled out a new streaming TV service for subscribers of the Xfinity TV Player. As you may recall, when the platform first launched, it only allowed users to stream content, but the status quo has changed for the better with the latest software update.

As an added bonus, the new update works across Android and iOS devices, allowing users to download content from premium channels such as Showtime, Starz, Encore and MoviePlex.

The rather obvious caveat? You have to subscribe to the ab0ve-mentioned channles on Comcast’s cable service. Once logged in, you’ll see the link to download an episode directly underneath the button to play the streaming content.

Download files are available in two different video qualities: high-quality and medium quality. Interestingly, Engadget says  the high-quality option isn’t up to current HD resolution standards. The publication also reported issues downloading files using the Xfinity TV Player app loaded on a Samsung Galaxy S III running Android 4.0.
