Project Eternity isn’t the first video game we’ve seen turn up on Kickstarter seeking funding for its continued development.
However, Project Eternity is breaking records as it nears $1.6 million on Kickstarter with 28 days to go. The rather impressive sum is significantly more than the original stated $1.1 million goal – which was raised in only a little more than 24 hours.
As you may recall, Obsidian is quite famous in the old-school RPG realm, as the studio dveloped some of the coolest RPG games ever, including some of the Fallout games, Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment.
Flushed with their massive fundraising success, Obsidian has already outlined some of it stretch goals that it plans on accomplishing as the game continues to generate ever higher levels of cash. In the meantime, enough money has been raised to fund the creation of a game with at least three races, five classes and five companions.
The game is very close to reaching its next stretch goal of $1.6 million and at that point, a Mac version of Project Eternity will be developed. Developers will also add a fresh storyline along with new quests, locations, NPCs and unique loot.
Additional stretch goals are for $1.8 million which will fund new playable races, anatomy classes and another new companion. $2 million will allow players to design their own in-game house to store equipment and host other players.
At $2.2 million, the devs will code a new region, fresh faction, and multiple companions. At that price point, Obsidian will also develop a Linux version of the game. If the game reaches $2.4 million in funding, other unspecified features will be added.
