Halo 4 – which goes live this November – is clearly one of the most anticipated video games of 2012. Personally, I think I may be looking forward to the live-action web series just as much as game itself.
In any event, a new Halo 4 behind-the-scenes video recently hit YouTube, which explores the origins of both the Forerunners and Prometheans.
As you may recall, the Prometheans are the primary enemy Master Chief faces in Halo 4. There are three distinct subclasses of Prometheans – Knights, Watchers, Crawlers – who work together in combat.
The developer diary video is interesting because it offers a look at early concept drawings of the enemy. The video also reviews the design philosophy 343 Industries followed when it was designing Forerunner architecture, as well as the weapons players will use as Master Chief.
The developers say one of the most challenging aspects of coding Halo 4 was telling the story of the Forerunners without interfering with the FPS aspects of the title. Remember, Halo games have always done a great job of balancing the a complex and engrossing story with in-game action. Frankly, I think it’s impressive how much thought and work went into developing the above-mentioned Promethean characters and Forerunners.
