Yes, DayZ is headed to Xbox Live

We at TG are definitely stoked about the upcoming stand-alone DayZ title – which evolved from a humble Arma II mod to one of the most popular FPS Zombie games on the PC.

DayZ mod dev Dean Hall, who was (wisely) hired on as the project lead for the undead shooter, recently dropped some rather pointed hints about the game no longer being tethered to PCs.

“You’re not going to put it on the consoles if you’re only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that,” Hall said back in August. “DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we’re at a point, we’ll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3.”

And now developer Bohemia Interactive, which is overseeing the official development of a standalone version of DayZ, confirmed the game will be aimed well beyond the current core PC audience.

“Obviously DayZ, you’ve seen the success of Minecraft on Xbox Live Arcade [4m sales] and we’d probably be stupid not to try to do something similar. We’ve always wanted to make games for consoles as well. Obviously we’re a PC developer and have been for some years, but consoles have a huge market and you don’t have so many problems with piracy,” producer Jan Kunt told VideoGamer.

“So it’s really interesting. PC is what it is, and I personally think PC players will stay as PC players, but the console has more penetration into mainstream markets. People who wouldn’t play games on PC, they buy an Xbox or PS3 as a medium to play games. So from that point of view it makes sense to go for consoles.”

DayZ does not yet have a release date, but we will keep you posted with any new information that comes our way.
