I’ve always thought one of the most important innovations in all of the modern tech world is the DVR.
Sure, you can scoff if you like, but growing up as the only person in the house who could program the VCR, I have a great appreciation for DVR technology and its ability to seamlessly record multiple programs.
TiVo – currently one of the biggest names in DVRs – has unveiled its latest digital video recorder dubbed the Premiere 4.
The next-gen DVR boasts a nice amount of storage space with 500 GB under the hood for 75 blissful hours of HD programming, while offering four, yes, four separate tuners. Meaning, you can record four programs at one time while watching a fifth recorded program. This could very well mark the end of having to decide what programs to watch Sunday night and which ones to inevitably ignore.
The tuner also features integrated Ethernet connectivity and supports MoCA for Internet connectivity when an Ethernet cable is unavailable. In addition, the Premiere 4 is compatible with a number of home automation controllers, such as those on the market from Creston, RTI and Control4.
“The TiVo Premiere 4 solves the pileup of must-see shows like Sunday nights when ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘Nurse Jackie,’ ‘Girls,’ ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’ ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Homeland,’ ‘The Good Wife,’ ‘True Blood,’ ‘Political Animals,’ and ‘Family Guy’ can overlap in a logjam of popular shows,” explained Tivo rep Doug Bieter.
“The TiVo Premiere 4 is a warehouse store of television and now viewers can stock up their TiVo without having to worry about scheduling conflicts.”
The TiVo Premiere 4 is only for use with digital cable systems (also supports QAM and Verizon FiOS) and doesn’t work with analog cable or over- the-air antennas.
Additional specs inlude HDMI, component video, composite video, optical audio, analog audio outputs, Dolby 5.1, a pair of USB 2.0 ports and an eSATA port for external storage.
The TiVo Premiere 4 sells for $249.99 plus a monthly service fee of $14.99.
