The Hobbit has arrived at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego after a long trek from Middle Earth.
Elijah Wood (Frodo) will be on site promoting the film at the convention alongside veteran LOTR-Hobbit director Peter Jackson.
“The scale of The Hobbit is larger, the anticipation is potentially greater, everything feels a little bit bigger,” Wood told Reuters. ”For so long, people didn’t think there would be a ‘Hobbit’ film, so the fact that there is finally, people have been anticipating this for a long time.”
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly unveiled a massive panoramic online banner depicting 10 detailed scenes from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
The scroll offers a first glimpse of shapeshifter Beorn, as well as a fresh look at Bilbo, Gandalf, Gollum, the Dwarves, Galadriel and Elrond.
As TG Daily previously reported, The Hobbit recently finished shooting in New Zealand after 266 grueling days. Peter Jackson is no doubt frenetically hustling to get the film ready for its long-awaited December 14 release date.
Yet now that Jackson’s returning to the real world with Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, it should be interesting to see how the Hobbit footage will do with the hordes of geeks who worship the director.
Shooting the film at 48 frames per second (FPS) was certainly a very controversial move, with some who’ve seen it saying it looks too much like a Spanish soap opera, but what the hard-core fans think at the Con will likely be the ultimate decider.
In the meantime, Ian McKellen who plays Gandalf in both the Hobbit and LOTR, told Entertainment Weekly “there will be a lot of minds blown wide apart” by the 48 FPS version of the film.
It’s certainly another ambitious gamble in one of the most ambitious gambles in cinema history, and we’ll find out this Christmas if Jackson’s return to Middle Earth pays off. We at TG Daily think it will.
