I’m a big fan of the TV show The Walking Dead, although I must confess I’ve never read any of the actual comics that inspired the series.
The Walking Dead recently comic line recently reached a major milestone, with its 100th issue being published. To celebrate the occasion, Robert Kirkman, creator of Walking Dead, has designed his own “zombie survival” machine, which is actually a modded Hyundai Elantra.
A vehicle based on Kirkman’s renderings will be built by Design Craft and displayed at the Future US booth on the Comic-Con show floor.
Kirkman, Skybound, and Hyundai will also be giving away a new Elantra GT – complete with a Walking Dead custom wrap.
Now I’m betting most of us would have never considered the Hyundai a vehicle of choice to ride out the zombie apocalypse. Nevertheless, the drawing looks really cool with all the spikes on the front for mowing down the undead zombie hordes.
Hyundai has also set up a website dubbed HyundaiUndead.com where you can follow the construction of the car from start to finish.
“The Hyundai Undead program allows us to interact with hundreds of thousands of film, comic, TV and video game fans during this summer’s ultimate pop culture event,” said Hyundai rep Steve Shannon. “We can’t wait to unveil our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine, the ultimate car for The Walking Dead fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie apocalypse.”
