The Hunger Games is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and it’s now just about a month away from being released on March 23.
The movie’s tagline is, “The World Will Be Watching,” and even if you’re not familiar with the popular young adult book series, with the movie and all the ensuing hysteria, The Hunger Games should be a household name in no time.
How the movie holds up to the books will ultimately be up to the fans to decide, but advance tickets for the movie will be on sale as of Wednesday. You can purchase tickets through Fandango, Moviefone, and MovieTickets.com, including the IMAX shows.
According to the L.A. Times, stars of the film will be touring malls on March 3 for fans to meet, beginning at the Westfield Century City mall in L.A. Gary Ross will be part of the tour, as will Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.
The tour is slated to last a week, and the Hunger Games gang is also scheduled to make stops in Atlanta, Phoenix, Chicago, Dallas, Minneapolis, and Seattle. There’s a Hunger Games Facebook page set up where you can RSVP for a mall appearance.
Back in the day, movies used to take the stars around regionally to meet the fans, and it’s interesting to see this way of promotion coming back. As the Times points out, there’s other promotions going on for the Hunger Games including a Twitter Puzzle, an iPhone game, a fictional Capitol Couture magazine, tie-in, and Panem ID cards you can get off Facebook.
There’s also been a lot of press lately about the soundtrack, which is sure to be a big seller along with the books once the movie comes out. Taylor Swift has a song on the soundtrack, “Safe & Sound,” as do The Decemberists’ with a song called “One Engine.”
With the movie, the books, and soundtrack there should definitely be a lot of big money “synergy,” as they say in Hollywood, going on strong when The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23.
