Sigourney Weaver talks Prometheus

Veteran sci-fi actor Sigourney Weaver may not be making an appearance in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, but the star of the Alien franchise still has plenty to say about the hotly anticipated film.

Loosely tied to the wildly popular Alien franchise, Prometheus boasts a star-studded cast, including the sexy Noomi Rapace (from the original Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba.

Although Scott has been quite reluctant to talk about the long-awaited movie (which is not quite an Alien prequel), we do know that Prometheus depicts the story of an exploration team seeking the origins of human civilization in a grand effort to save future generations of mankind.

And according to Weaver, Prometheus takes the franchise to where she always wanted previous Alien films to go.

“Fox and I disagreed on how the [movies] should continue. But I’m glad it’s Ridley Scott doing it, and I’ll be as curious as anyone, or maybe more curious, to see it [because] I think he took my suggestion,” Weaver recently told The Independent.

“Fox wanted to go to earth and I said: ‘That’s so boring. Who wants to see aliens on earth?’ I said ‘go back to the [original] planet [depicted in Alien]’.”

In other Prometheus related news, yet another a new picture from the movie has been making its obligatory online rounds.

Although little fresh information can be gleaned from the image, it does offer a different perspective of the giant statue, perhaps epitomizing the insiginifcance of the Prometheus crew in a wider universe – while showing us some pods, eggs or alien pottery on the floor.

Is it just me, or do you not get an original Alien feel looking at the photo? Obviously, Ridley is back and better than ever!

Prometheus hits theaters on June 8, 2012 via 20th Century Fox.
