Fox is showcasing a really brief “mini teaser” for season four of the hit show Fringe at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego, California.
Unfortunately, there’s not much to see here and it certainly doesn’t give us any new information about the overarching plot of the series.
However, the teaser may provide a hint about what the focus for the new season could be.
When Peter disappeared at the end of season three none of us knew what to think. Is he permanently gone, is this a two-episode cliff-hanger, or is the next season going to focus on Peter’s disappearance?
We seemingly have our answer in this short clip, in which Peter is talking to someone, probably Olivia, letting them know that he will stop at nothing to solve the mystery of what has happened to him. Whether or not he found a way for the other characters to hear him from wherever he is, we’re not sure, he could be talking to a non-listening person.
The build-up to this point in the series has been slow, and I think that’s where a lot of the show’s magic comes from. We’ve spent the last three seasons making discoveries about the show’s story world and its parallel near-copy, but it’s been done in such a way as the audience knows that there is more to learn, but they are not blatantly left with ‘questions’ about what is going on.
When something new and interesting happens, the characters understand it just as the audience does, keeping back that all-too-familiar feeling that things are being actively hidden from us by the writers.
The fourth season of Fringe debuts on Friday, September 23, at 9pm on Fox.
