Facebook fueled rage prompts girl to run over cousin, twice

In a rage somewhat reminiscent of Amy Fisher a la 1990s, a Long Island woman has been arrested for running over her cousin with a minivan after a Facebook induced catfight.

Melanie Spanopoulos  not only ran over her cousin Giselle Penagos, 21, but also left her in the middle of a busy road on a freezing New York night.

Shortly after the attack, Penagos was rescued by a Good Samaritan who brought her to a local hospital to treat what would be a shattered pelvis, broken leg, and other more minor injuries.

The attack was incited after Spanopoulos  found out her cousin was in touch with the girl’s crush on Facebook. Upon hearing this information, jealousy erupted since the crush had indeed rejected Spanopoulos ‘ friend request.

Spanopoulos  received this ego crushing information while driving home with her cousin after watching the Jets game at a local bar.

As the argument within the van got more heated, the two feuding cousins took the fight to the street where it turned physical. Spanopoulos then jumped back into the car, running her cousin over with the minivan not once, but twice.

According to the victim’s uncle William Penagos, Spanopoulos  then demanded her cousin to “get the f—k in the car,” to which Penagos replied “I can’t get in the car, I can’t feel my legs.”

After laying in the street for around five minutes, a Good Samaritan arrived and drove the victim to the hospital.

Spanopoulos, who was arraigned yesterday in a District Court in Hempstead was charged with assault and released on $10,000 bail.

The girl maintains her innocence and when asked for comment she replied with a smile, “This sucks.”
