Universal Pictures has released a trailer for the 3D release of its classic dinosaur thriller.
Jurassic Park is one of the most iconic films of its era, spawning a huge franchise of films, toys, and video games. As part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the film, the studio will be releasing a 3D version, which will find its way into theaters, and ultimately onto 3D blu-ray discs.
It’s not just 3Dified, however, it’s been fully remastered from the original reels with today’s post processing technology. The film will be crisper, cleaner and more vibrant than it even was on the silver screen at original release time.
Of course, it won’t be ‘real’ 3D. It’s simply not possible to create the information required for a true 3D experience from footage that originally did not film with a dual-lensed camera, but they’re getting better and better at faking it with each passing year. It still might give you a headache if you’re sensitive to such things, however.
The trailer does a great job of combining the most memorable imagery from the film – The cups of water; poor little Ariana Richards running for her life, arms outstretched; Samuel L. Jackson telling people what body part they should hold on to – with the scenes that will be most effective and evocative in 3D. Expect to see the trailer in 3D in front of every 3D film showing this holiday season.
“With his remastering of the epic into a state-of-the-art 3D format, Spielberg introduces the three-time Academy Award-winning blockbuster to a new generation of moviegoers and allows longtime fans to experience the world he envisioned in a way that was unimaginable during the film’s original release,” claims the studio.
Jurassic Park 3D will hit theaters on April 5, 2013. The 3D home release will come later in the year.
