Disney has released a new TV spot for its upcoming CGI video game film, Wreck-it Ralph.
This TV spot, staring two of the film’s vocalists, Jane Lynch and Jack McBreyer was designed specifically to be shown on NBC during the Olympic Games.
It’s a little goofy, and neither of the actors is very interesting. Frankly, I loathe the persona Lynch seems to take on in commercials and other non-character work. It’s like she’s trying to pretend her Glee character is what she’s really like, which we know isn’t really the case.
In any case, the new trailer does offer a few clips from scenes we haven’t seen before. In addition, we have a new synopsis which fleshes out the plot somewhat more clearly than its predecessor:
“Wreck-It Ralph longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun, Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking ‘glitch’ from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s ‘Game Over’ for the entire arcade?”

Of course, you can play the in-canon video game over on the website for the film. It’s not terrible.
Personally, I’m really looking forward to this film. I had low expectations when I first heard about it, but the promotional material I’ve seen so far looks really clever, and makes it seem as though they treat the subject matter respectfully, which I was worried most about.
Wreck-it Ralph hits theaters November 2nd, 2012.
