20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for its upcoming animated fantasy adventure film, Epic.
The film depicts the tale of a teenage girl who wakes up to find herself tiny and surrounded by a race of miniature warrior people who live in the jungle, and whose homes are threatened by human expansion. She becomes connected to their world when she falls for the little people’s prince.
Sounds a lot like Fern Gully to me, but it still looks fun, and today’s kids haven’t likely seem Fern Gully anyhow, so they probably won’t care.
We also have this synopsis:
“Epic” tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.
This one was produced by Blue Skies animation, which has been quietly making some of the best non-pixar CGI films for a few years now, including the touching Rio and the silly, yet very popular, Ice Age franchise.
The film’s lead is voiced by Amanda Seyfried, with the male lead by Josh Hutcherson. Beyonce Knowles, Colin Farrell, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson, and Judah Friedlander also lend their voices to this family adventure.
Epic is slated to hit theaters May 24th, 2013.
