Nickelodeon has released the first trailer for its upcoming martial arts action serial, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This CGI reboot of a now classic cartoon series sees the Brothers Turtle up against a host of new and classic villains, including Shredder, a character who was killed by the turtles in the first issue of the original comics, but who remained in every other media they hit.
EW recently spoke with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles executive producer Ciro Neili, who explained how this iteration of the characters fits into the Turtles universe. “I tried to boil it down and get to really what’s at the core of it,” said Neili. “Which is this sense of brothers and camaraderie. Everything grew out of that. It’s like a band. You want a Beatles thing.”
The only synopsis we have is the same as the VO in the trailer:
“They were created by accident. They were kept a secret. They were trained for battle. And now, when their city is under siege, the fate of humanity is in the hands of these four…turtles! When evil threatens our universe, these four brothers are destined to save the world!”
Interestingly, Splinter only seems to show up in some sketches at the beginning – possibly from the title sequence – and April is missing entirely from the trailer.
The commercial has already begun airing on Nickelodeon. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premieres this fall on the children’s cable network.
