Disney has released some plot details for Avengers Assemble, the upcoming superhero animated serial.
Recently, the studio announced that its fan-favorite animated serial Avengers: The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would not be renewed for another season. This mystified fans and critics alike, as the show was well-received all around. Now, perhaps the decision makes more sense, as Disney has confirmed that a new animated show is in development.
Avengers Assemble will be based on the Marvel Film Universe versions of the famous characters, and the team will consist of the heroes from the film – Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Black Widow – with one new addition.
The Falcon, a character the film audience hasn’t seen an interpretation of yet, will be the point-of-view character.
“He’s a new member of the Avengers so he’s walking through our stories wide-eyed and with wonder and amazed to be a part of it,” Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada told TV Guide. “He’s a little younger than the rest of the cast and a little greener, so he adds an interesting dimension to the team that we think will play really well with the audience.”
You can see how the characters will be depicted in the promo image at left. Interestingly, there are some costume changes between the film and the series, most noticeably, Thor gets his winged helmet.
Presumably, Disney decided it didn’t really need two Avengers shows running at the same time, especially within different canons. They are, however, talking about giving Hulk his own show in addition to his role on Avengers Assemble, but that show has yet to be finalized.
The plot of the new show is still under wraps, so we don’t know what the challenges or villains might be yet.
No release date has been announced for Avengers Assemble, but it will likely join Ultimate Spider-Man in the Marvel Universe programming block on Disney XD when it does.
