The second Hunger Games film needs a new male lead, and a few up and coming names in genre projects have been offered up for consideration.
Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch, and Garrett Hedlund are all being eyed for the role of Finnick in Catching Fire – a role that plays opposite Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss as her new arena partner.
Armie Hammer recently played the role of the romantic lead on Relativitiy Media’s Snow White adaptation Mirror, Mirror, and is currently slated to play the title role in Disney’s The Lone Ranger remake.
Garrett Hedlund most recently appeared as the lead in TRON: Legacy, and was tapped to lead Akira until it was cancelled, so his schedule remains open.
Taylor Kitch lead in two major studio, big-budget releases this year, John Carter and Battleship, both of which performed well below expectations at the box office. He also recently finished up a role in Oliver Stone’s upcoming drama, Savages.
Every 25 years, a special arena match is held in Panem: the winners from the previous 24 years of Hunger Games are tossed back into the arena to fight it out amongst one another, so for the 75th annual games, Katniss will be back in the spotlight, and she’ll need someone to work with on the inside. Finnick is the winner of the 65th games, and a resident of District 4. Katniss has to learn to trust and rely upon this partner if she’s going to survive.
Hunger Games: Catching Fire which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, and Toby Jones, begins shooting, on a tight schedule, this summer with the film hitting theaters in summer 2013.
