Lone Ranger returning to pulp

Dynamite Entertainment has confirmed that it will be launching a new line of Lone Ranger comic books.

The new line, titled Lone Ranger: Snake of Iron, is penned by veteral comics writer Chuck Dixon and drawn by Esteve Polls.

The synopsis for the book is thus:

“The Lone Ranger and Tonto are in the crossfire as a bloody Kiowa uprising draws these western legends onto the warpath. The Spirit Horse has returned to the plains and calls the tribes to battle. Is this a ghostly apparition or something else? If The Lone Ranger cannot solve the mystery then the land north of the Brazos will run red with blood!”

It’s a new story for the original ‘masked man’, rather than an adaptation of one of his classic tales, which makes it all the more interesting.

Of course, Dynamite is counting on interest in The Lone Ranger being renewed by the upcoming film adaptation starring Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, and Helena Bonham Carter.

“This series was a particular thrill for me. I grew up on Batman, Tarzan and The Lone Ranger and now I get to complete that triumvirate as a professional writer when I finally get a crack at writing a Lone Ranger and Tonto story,” said Dixon.

“This is The Lone Ranger as I’ve always imagined him; a fearless defender of the defenseless in a lawless land. These stories are first and foremost westerns and this one is six-guns blazing and wild horses the whole way!”

The Lone Ranger: Snake of Iron #1

will hit comic stores and digital shops in July 2012.
