HighMoon Studios has debuted a new trailer for its upcoming Transformers tie-in video game, Fall of Cybertron.
The game takes place in the distant past, on the planet of Cybertron. If you know the Transformers story, you know that this is where it all began. Long ago, on their home planet, the race we call the Transformers were at odds.
Megatronus had become a leader of people, a political shaker, but it was his friend, Orion Pax, who was chosen as the new Prime of Cybertron, his name changing to Optimus in the process. The civil war which followed between these two factions, lead by Optimus, and the also renamed Megatron, lasted for many years and completely decimated the planet.
In most Transformers stories, this tale is in the mythology of the world, having taken place so many years ago that, despite the fact that the robots involved are still alive, it has nearly faded into legend.
Fall of Cybertron takes place during this great war, immediately following the events of the first game, War for Cybertron, and allows the player to take on a part in the conflict. The gameplay takes the form of an over-the-shoulder shooter with team deathmatch mechanics. The title is multi-player only, with each player choosing either the Autobots or Decepticons, then selecting a character from that team, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Changes from the first game include the addition of new weapons, characters, and bonuses. In addition, each character will have some kind of special attack, entirely unique to them. For example, the brawler class Grimlock can go into a dinosaur rage, while the saboteur class Jazz has a grappling hook.
With great vocal performances, and updated gameplay to an already fun game, Fall of Cybertron is shaping up well for Transformers fans.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron hits shelves August 28th, 2012.
