IMAX Corporation and Lionsgate have confirmed that the long-awaited adaptation of The Hunger Games will see a remastered IMAX format release.
The huge-screen edition will only run for one week, so if this is the way you want to see the new film, you’ll have to make time during a very limited window: March 23 – 29, 2012.
“With this news, the release of The Hunger Games has truly become an epic event,” Lionsgate’s Joe Drake explained in an official statement.
“The Hunger Games and IMAX are a match made in heaven – fans love this book because its world is so vividly imagined and seeing the film in IMAX will make them feel as if they have landed right in the middle of the action. It is the ideal way for fans to experience this film for the first time.”
Lionsgate has also teamed up with software developer Funtactix to create a social media game titled The Hunger Games Adventures.
Players will be given the the opportunity to adventure throughout, and complete missions around Panem. And, as the game map of the world reveals itself over time, it will be the first place fans will have a chance to see a detailed cartographic depiction of the story-world, something which has been the source of much speculation in the Hunger Games fan community.
The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, 2012. The Hunger Games Adventures has no release date, but will likely go live around the same time.
