360cam from GIROPTIC takes amazing panoramic pics and vids in HD

The 360cam from GIROPTIC is one of those ‘I gotta get one!’ products currently looking for funding on Kickstarter. It’s a small, pear-shaped device that takes pictures or videos in full 360 degree HD.

When I saw this product on Kickstarter I thought it looked pretty cool but when I read the complete description and watched the videos I was blown away. Considering the size of this little device I would have been impressed if it just took 360 degree pictures, but it goes way beyond that. It takes 360 degree videos in HD, it’s waterproof (you can even get it a pair of wacky goggles), it can stream live images, it has surround sound, it has GPS, it has a gyroscopic image stabilizer, it can be activated remotely with your smartphone, it can be used as a security camera, it can…well, the list of things it can do are just about as impressive as the pictures and videos it can capture.

The 360cam from GIROPTIC is the first ultra high definition 360º camera that breaks through the limitation of the frame to record the entire experience of the moment in 360°. For the past two years our team has dedicated its work to overcoming previous 360° technical limitations and has invented a ground-breaking design, with innovative engineering, and easy-to-use interface.

The 360cam features a unique, egg-shaped design, incorporating two key proprietary innovations:

  • Three, 185º fish-eye lenses with optical assembly that delivers the industry’s largest field of view
  • Each of the lenses are synchronized to simultaneously capture and stitch images in real time inside the camera to produce a breath-taking all-around view

The result is a camera that, with one click, doesn’t miss a thing.

The company is hoping to ship the 360cam by the end of the year at a retail price of around $500 and to do that they wanted to raise $150,000 – they have already raised nearly $900,000 and still have 28 days to go.
