A report alleged that Steve Jobs asked the former CEO of Palm to strike a deal that would have meant neither poached the other’s staff two years ago.
Bloomberg said Ed Colligan, then the CEO of Palm, rebuffed Jobs’ jobs advance and dubbed it as possibly illegal.
Palm had poached an Apple employee called Jon Rubenstein and that upset Steve Jobs, the report continued. He wanted Palm to enter into a pact, but Colligan wasn’t playing this game.
Rubinstein headed up the Apple iPod division before he took the Palm job offer. He is now the CEO of Palm.
Bloomberg has seen communications between Jobs and Colligan in which the latter said: “Your proposal that we agree that neither company will hire the other’s employees, regardless of the individual’s desires, is not only wrong, it is likely illegal,” said Colligan.
