IBM moving a "large number" of US jobs to India

Armonk (NY) – The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that IBM will be moving “a large number” of US jobs in its business services divisions to new employees in India, thereby laying off the US workers.

The WSJ cites an internal memo revealing this is the largest in terms of revenue and employees in its history, with 180,000 employees in those divisions worldwide.

IBM is currently in talks to buy Sun Microsystems for an estimated $6.5 billion. IBM had previously laid off 4600 employees in its software, sales, semiconductor and finance groups.
