The Winklevoss brothers may look like they have it all, but they didn’t really score any favors with the head of their university.
Unlike the well-coiffed twins who have been nothing but whiny and troublesome since the movie The Social Network was released, Harvard president Larry Summers was willing to eat a piece of humble pie.
Speaking at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference, Summers admitted the movie’s portrayal of him was woefully accurate – depicting him as arrogant and smug. Perhaps it allowed him a chance to realize how other perceive him.
But the Winklevoss twins had the opposite experience. After The Social Network exposed their cocky and arrogant attitudes, they’ve done nothing but become more arrogant and cocky.
Say what you will about the fact that Mark Zuckerberg perhaps stole the idea for Facebook from the Winklevoss brains, but the fact that they have whined about getting $65 million for doing almost absolutely nothing, and think they deserve more, is ludicrous in most people’s opinion.
Summers called them out on their attitude. “One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they’re looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they are an a**hole,” he said.
“Rarely have I encountered such swagger, and I tried to respond in kind.”
So the depiction of Summers as an uncaring, arrogant jerk was accurate, but he was only trying to match the uncaring, jerk-like, arrogant demeanor of the Winklevii.
The good news is that hopefully the while Winklevoss thing is done for good, and the twins can just live an amazing and glorious life – again without doing practically anything.
