Flixster buys bag of Rotten Tomatoes

News Corp subsidiary IGN Entertainment has sold its film review site, Rotten Tomatoes, to Flixster.

Flixster specializes in online movie information, but while no financial terms of the deal were revealed, part of the acquisition is as a share swap.

The company also has an interest in producing applications for smartphones including the BlackBerry, the iPhone and Google Android phones.

Last year both outfits became partners and shared reviews but it appears that both Flixter and Rotten Tomatoes will carry on trading separately, at least for the time being.

News Corp is engaged in a number of deals in which it has started ridding itself of digital sites it acquired.

Last month IGN sold photobucket.com to another firm called Ontela for around $60 million.
