Facebook gift cards coming to Target

Are you stuck trying to figure out what to get that special person as a birthday present? How about a Facebook gift card!

Yep. Facebook is going to get a retail presence starting next week, as Target will begin selling physical cards that users can redeem for Facebook Credits.

It will become the first retailer to offer the cards, though Facebook certainly will have its eye on expansion if Target proves to bring in a good amount of revenue.

“With social gaming becoming increasingly popular, Facebook Credits gift cards provide an easy and convenient option for Target guests to purchase virtual goods,” said Target SVP Mark Schindele in a statement.

Facebook Credits can be used in the social networking site’s social games like Farmville and Mafia Wars. The cards will be sold in denominations of $15, $25, and $50.

Target is becoming a good test store for emerging technology products. Amazon also chose that retailer as the first brick-and-mortar store to sell the Kindle. It was also one of the first to offer Sony’s Playstation Network gift cards.
